Laser Settings for Slate

Can you laser engrave slate?

Yes — slate is one of the most satisfying beginner materials. The beam turns dark slate pale grey, so designs come out light-on-dark with striking contrast, and even a small diode laser handles it well.

PrepPreparation & technique

Wipe clean and dry first. Slate is never flat: focus on the centre of the engraving area. Bold designs beat fine detail — slate's texture eats thin lines.

⚠ SafetyProduces fine mineral dust — extraction on, wipe the bed down afterwards.
