Why Composites Don't Belong in a Hobby Laser

Can you laser cut fibreglass or carbon fibre?

No. Fibreglass releases fine glass particles and toxic resin fumes. Carbon fibre composites delaminate rather than cut, their epoxy resins can release cyanide-bearing byproducts, and the conductive carbon dust attacks electronics — yours and the machine's.

Hides inWhere it turns up

Circuit boards (FR4), boat and car body panels, drone frames, sporting goods, kit enclosures.

InsteadSafe alternatives

Machine composites mechanically with proper dust extraction, or have them waterjet cut.

If it happensAccidental exposure

Stop, ventilate, and vacuum (don't blow) the dust with a fine filter.

⚠ The golden ruleNo safety data sheet, no material spec, no cut. When in doubt, leave it out.
